Your right, support for Bernardi is a symptom. A symptom of the growing mass of Australians that we could define as politically illiterate. People who think 'if we cut tax to zero, we'll be better off". They're the same unaware/unconscious mob that voted Pauline in '96 and then became Howard's Battlers aka Howard's Useful Idiots until 2007. These are the useful idiots that have been courted and cajoled by rightwing pollies for the last 20 yrs, playing up to their low political consciousness and prejudiced histrionics about welfare and immigration in return for support at the ballot box for policies that would harm their long term personal economic security.
