It's not exactly difficult to upgrade products but you don't want to do it too often or unnecessarily for these reasons:
-Complicance/certification expenses
-Lower economies of scale in production (at least in short-term)
-Lead time issues with selected components
-Retraining costs on production line
-Reduces marketability of existing products
