have you tried polish pickled herrings?!?! .. in polish called "sledzie" ...
my parents came here 30 years ago so I'm of polish descent / extraction... I tell you this is the most disgusting thing I've ever eaten and if you can keep this stuff down - you're a harder man / woman than I.. no sugar to balance it out like the swedish, just pickled fishy death...
if you bring up the word "sledzie" around any young-ish 1st generation aussie with polish parents you will generally get an intstant grimace followed by a few profanities...lol
