Brings back many memories catching the herring as a kid. If not caught, they are one variety that is still very cheap. Can cost up to $60.00 per kilo for Whiting fillets nowadays! Our whole Australian fishing industry is on the ropes IMO - the prices are becoming ridiculous and I have no idea who is capturing the market. The imported fish are being sold with Australian names - the whole industry needs a real shake up. Have fun with the Herring - makes me salivate as I love catching and eating fish. Adore Gardies too. I used to snatch them with my hands from the boat - had to be nimble.
