I agree and it's good to see some discussion on Powertel.
If they continue increasing revenues and reducing costs they will certainly become profitable although the payback on more than $300m of capex will take a while.
The new chairman of Powertel is Miller Williams who is the son of the Williams gas empire. Williams Communications is restructuring its debt under Chapter 11 protection but the energy company is doing very well indeed. They just didn't want the telecoms company weighing on the energy company and although Williams Communications has been growing it has got in breach of its bank loan covenants.
Last year Powertel won awards for its quality of service and its corporate and wholesale customers speak well of it. It would make sense to merge Powertel with UEComm or perhaps use it as the CBD access of the new UtiliTel power company national network which is planned to rival or possibly take over the local and regional parts of Telstra. This is a $10billion project.
