Good points elixer8,
Jewellery demand is rising by about 4% per year, while gold production is rising at about 3% (recycling included). Demand for coins and bars remains strong. The Shanghai exchange traded 583 tonnes of gold in February. Of which, 520 tonnes were delivered. Alongside the real estate mayhem, China faces demand headwinds, both within and without the country.
The war in Palestine does draw a number of similarities to the first world war, specifically the complex string of alliances present in the region, also present in pre-war Europe. Interesting to note that very few in Europe wanted to go to war, with notable exceptions Austro Hungary and Serbia.
It seems every other day Australia is buying new military equipment and the warmongers become more and more vocal. I think the vast majority has no appetite for war, much like the early 20th century. Yet, somehow humankind has a way of slipping into wars no one wants to be a part of. Possibly harks back to our tribal nature. What is nationalism but a modern form of super-tribalism?
