I hear what you're saying and I'm also a harsh critic of American foreign policies. They have been brutal on countries that didn't tow the line in their quest for dominance. However, I don't think it would be a good thing for the world if the US completely implode. Things could get really nasty. I have hope that over the next couple of years they will suffer enough economically that they actually see the error of their ways, realize they are not the hegemon any longer and are (and you can include Australia in this) in the world minority. There is enough to go around in a peaceful, respectful world. Gold prices and consequently the miners, are going to be way north of where they are now, regardless.
