I don't think anyone is talking about monetising the existing US bond market with gold.
However, if Trump replaces the US Fed Jerome Powell (Trump hates him) with Shelton, then there may be some new US Treasury bonds, maybe Tier One for Special Friends, which are issued with some level of gold backing.
Otherwise there will come a time, if we are not there already, when no-one will be buying US Treasuries, except for the sock puppets already owned by the Fed!
