'The Hemi deposit, about 85 kilometres from Port Hedland, was discovered in late 2019 but the scale of the find became clearer after a major exploration campaign that saw as many as 10 drill rigs turning in 2022.The cost of bringing Hemi into production is estimated at $1.3b, but a definitive feasibility study estimated payback on that investment could be achieved in less than two years.Those studies were conducted at an Australian dollar gold price of $2,700/oz, which has since almost doubled.The mine is slated to have an initial 12-year life and is expected to create 900 construction jobs and 600 operational roles.The addition of Hemi is expected to increase Northern Star's production from a forecast two million ounces next financial year to 2.5m ounces a year by 2028-29.'
