That is exactly my concern, for an open pit mine to be economical it has been proven in many countries outside Australia where labour and input materials are much cheaper that 100+ meters of pre strip doesn’t not constitute a deposit worth throwing money at because the rate of return doesn’t outweigh the risk. Sun silvers flagship silver deposit is a large and low grade resource, proving that your thesis of an open pit starting at 100+ meters is next to impossible.
The majority of sun silvers deposit actually lies well and truly beneath the surface around 200 meters below surface.
