“That's not news, it's your opinion”

Well it seems that robotics being a political issue IS NEWS to some. There are always some ignorant people around of course - some bordering on moronic

this is probably news to them . Perhaps one day they’ll grow up and understand that the op is very much on topic in Aussie politics- particularly in 2024 -

“Robotics and artificial intelligence have become political issues in Australia, with several key developments:

    1. The Australian government unveiled a National Robotics Strategy in 2024, aimed at boosting the country's robotics and automation industry. Science and Industry Minister Ed Husic announced plans to invest in this sector through various funds to encourage growth and increase national productivity[2].

    2. There are ongoing debates about the impact of automation and AI on jobs. Some studies have suggested that up to 40% of Australian jobs could be automated in the next 10-15 years, leading to concerns about job displacement[4].

    3. Australia has faced calls to take action on regulating autonomous weapons systems, also known as "killer robots." The country has been criticized for supporting voluntary measures rather than legally binding instruments to address the risks posed by these technologies[1].

    4. The Australian Human Rights Commission has called for the government to explicitly prohibit lethal autonomous weapons systems, highlighting the ethical and humanitarian concerns surrounding this technology[1].

    5. There are governance tensions surrounding the use of robots in care services, with debates about the advantages, disadvantages, and ethical implications of introducing robotics into healthcare settings[5].

These developments indicate that robotics and AI have become significant political issues in Australia, touching on areas such as economic policy, defense, human rights, and healthcare. The government is grappling with how to balance the potential benefits of these technologies with the need to address associated risks and ethical concerns.
