There are billions of Dollars that will have to be saved by Treasurer Hockey. This is a good start.
Unlike Swan, whose idea of a "saving" is a new tax or increased tax, the Liberals understand that savings have to come from the expenditure side of the ledger.
This particular form of welfare has turned into a rort anyway. For a start, it's only available to those who qualify for the Family Tax Benefit ie primarily Labor voters. Second, Swan did away with the concept of it being a reimbursement for costs incurred for schooling whereby receipts had to be produce. Now it is just a payment that automatically goes into bank accounts to be spent at JB HiFi, BWS or the pokies - whatever!
I'd have it at the top of my list to scrap as well. Plenty more to come....
