Our politicians followed the Americans into another one of their stupid wars. Once el-Qaeda were removed there was no reason to stay.
The Yanks could have paid the Taliban 1 billion a year to keep el-Qaeda out and it would have been a lot cheaper that the 6 trillion dollars this war has cost them.
There was obviously not enough oversight and direction from the senior commanders of the patrol leaders of the SASR which is why these things occurred. It would be hard not to believe that these rumours and talk would not have filtered up the chain of command but they probably did not want to know about it.
