Better to also remove negative gearing tax incentives while they are at it. It's a good time to do it too, when house prices are lower so the gearing factor has less influence.
When you introduce a tax break, it's hard to get rid of, as the public then starts to view it as an inalienable right, and it becomes political suicide to revoke.
