Blao was right - Roger the algo was in action - that is what he does at the closing auction. He ensures that there is an unnatural close, by spending money to get the outcome that he wants.
Funny thing is that you can often make money out of Roger. If you want to buy, bid in the closing auction, even if only to sell the next day after the open. Free money!
