Wendy Harmer is a person of many talents – Author, playwright, comedian, radio show host She reviled this week that she is happy to see Wind farms, no accounting for tastes. I have heard of tree huggers but not wind farm lovers.

Despite all her skills, it appears that she will never let the truth get in the way of a good story. Anything for boosting the ratings.

Her morning radio program ABC Sydney Radio on Friday 3rd of September was no exception. She like many of her Anti Pep11 friends love to talk about exploration rigs 5K offshore, there are no such proposals.
The location for the drilling location Seablue 1 will be in a depth of 125 mtrs of water 26 Km offshore.On Friday’s program it was stated that at a distance of 14.5 Km items disappear below the horizon, one fact she got one fact right.

She also states that seismic testing would need to be carried to establish a suitable location for a wind farm that would be less invasive to sea creatures than the seismic survey carried for PEP 11 in 2018.
A recent study concluded that seismic had no long-term detrimental effect to marine life.

Back to offshore wind farms, the bill was only past on 2nd September 2021. It is early days for any applications to be applied and submitted to the agencies responsible for offshore installations to evaluate and what is acceptable. They could be the well-established type that are set into the seabed or the more recent development of floating installations. I doubt if the design and location will be based on Wendy’s wish list, but based on best practice, maintenance and economics.
That the location could be 15, 20 or 30 Km offshore which her guest spoke about. What he didn't mention was that the further offshore the higher the cost.
Once the wind turbines are built and installed, the transmission cable will have to be hooked into multiple wind turbines, her expert spoke of the turbines being in clusters of 50,60 or more then connected to an onshore transmission point. This isn’t an off the shelf cable, it will need to be of suitable design and anchored or buried in the seabed.

The most preposterous statement she made was that “windfarms not trying to actively kill you.” What is she trying to imply? That Gas Rigs Kill People
