In many ways , I disagree with your assertions. Business and Investment will continue in Canada despite Trump. In fact , the Bank of Canada is predicting only a mild recession brought on by the tariff debacle.
I grew up and spent my later Uni years when Brian Mulroney who was the Prime Minister at the time , and who was at the center of the negotiations for the NAFTA free trade agreement with the USA and Mexico.
Even back then , Canadians were scared of the potential repercussions and whether they could in fact compete in this sort of Environment. Of course , they ended up doing more than just compete , and businesses actually prospered and grew under the new regime.
Canadians are far more adaptable and innovative than I think you are giving them credit for , and despite what Trump trumpets about , there is a reason that the US takes 75% of everything Canada produces. And that is because they need it, and will suffer without the extent of some of it. You can't simply replace that sort of volume of product , goods , and energy.
The Americans will find this out ....because they won't be buying ' Made in China ' will they ........
I believe the SP weakness is more to do with the dynamics of the merger terms , and the uncertainties of the timing of any proposed consolidation of the register.
