The foreign ownership thing certainly has people fired up but I think its a little overdone to be fair.
If you are in the market for an off the plan or brand new apartment that is worth 500k and want to pay a million for it, or a $10 million beachfront pad, then you may have to compete with the foreign buyers. Its a niche market and not one in which many investors dabble.
If you are buying median priced property for an investment, as most investors do, you have nothing to fear from foreign ownership.
The country needs people spending money, it doesn't matter where it comes from.
