If it were as i suggest then money would not be coming from quantum profit. I would assume they just need to finfmd another buyer for whatever share or bond they created and sold to the original buyer who redeemed? As long as they find a new buyer they lose nothing. The problem would come if a load of holders want to cash in and they can't find new buyers to hold whatever represents the gold? Sounds like something like this occured but who knows.
