MELBOURNE (Dow Jones)--BG Group PLC (BG.LN) chief executive Frank Chapman has dismissed speculation his company will make a tilt at Queensland Gas Co. Ltd. (QGC.AU) if BG's takeover bid for coal-seam gas producer Origin Energy Ltd. (ORG.AU) succeeds, The Australian Financial Review reports Monday.
Chapman told the newspaper Friday that QGC would remain its own company, as the key qualities QGC brought to its current joint venture with BG would be best preserved if the structure prevailed.
"You want to make sure you get alignment where both parties are bringing something powerful to the table," Chapman told the newspaper.
"QGC is bringing a local presence and reputation as well as skills that are of great power, and they bring that by being independent," he said.
