Seems ABC did a snippet on this first for Rural News Broken Hill tip but failed to report that SRI was involved (GCR only have 25% compared to SRI's 75% as I understand it):

"Getting a tip on resources in the Silver City

In resources news, there could be shouts of "Eureka!" right across the famous mining town of Broken Hill, if drilling in the city's rubbish tip delivers the mother lode.

There's just four years left in the city's current lead and zinc mine, and Golden Cross Resources is now preparing to explore the Broken Hill rubbish tip, where there's been some interesting signs from an underground survey.

Professor Ian Plymer from the University of Melbourne says we might see a revival of fortunes in the historic town.

"The Broken Hill ore deposit is the biggest zinc-lead-silver deposit in the world, and we know from other fields where we find base level deposits that they occur in clusters; so it's highly likely that there is another sulphide deposit around Broken Hill.

"So the anomaly that's out near the depot is telling us that we've got something really unusual; and if we've got something unusual, we should really test it."

Meanwhile market analysts are expecting a major boost to the economy from a price hike for iron ore.

The world's biggest iron ore producers and steel makers are wrangling over possible rises of between 50 and 90 per cent, in their annual price talks.

Rob Brierly from Patterson Securities says it's all being driven by the shrinking supply of iron ore.

"It's a case of there is no more supply, and if these steel makers want to get their hands on this iron ore, they'll have to pay up."
