If I put $83,000 into a fixed investment for 12 months at 5% if you can get 5%, you would receive $4,150 interest. But the that will be taxed depending on your tax rate so that interest will not be so good after tax.
If I put the same into BHP I get 2 dividends paid in around
9 months. It's unknown how much the 2 dividends will be but I will work on $1.00 AUD plus franking credits.
So for my 2000 BHP shares I receive $4000 in a 9 month period plus franking credits.. the franking credits will cover any tax, plus BHP shares will always go up which increases my capitol. This being said their dividend may not be $1.00 but I believe it's in the ball park.
No risk no reward...
By the way I used that amount because that's what I own.
Anyway each to their own way of investing, I'm very happy with my choice as I guess you are..
