Generally people are at different stages in life when posting, there is no obsession but just a clear interest, as in my case, of having BHP in an SMSF. It is very attractive from an imputation perspective. In pension phase, no tax, dividend imputation applied - refunded etc etc. With rising inflation you have to evaluate how a potential rise/ fall in sp compared to a good paying dividend and then readjust your portfolio to suit. Maybe the banks offer a better safer option, maybe its spec stocks but a healthy dividend that 'grows' keeps you in good stead when living expenses get more pricey so there will always be an interest in the dividend payment as opposed to the sp that can fluctuate by 20% from month to month.
