MrD, I am thinking that BHP has more chance of scrapping into some more phillipines acreage than taking over BG.
If you do a search on takeover rumours regarding BG for the past few year, there is little wonder why the UK market places no creedence on these takeover rumours.
Shell is apparently competing for th bid for BG, and has been for about 10 years now. I am sure they will close the deal soonish :)
Sorry for being so cynical. I would hope that BG continue on their own because I quite like their confident and agressive attitude towards their LNG business development.
