Actually this is a really good question.
While the Jansen Potash Project, BHP announced approval of Stage 1 on the 17th Aug, will utilize a flotation circuit for the recovery of potash from the ore.
The current process flow appears to show disposal of waste brines by way of brine disposal wells. This method of disposal has considerable costs in terms of drilling, casing, fracturing and completing the disposal wells, not to mention the process of injection and ongoing environmental monitoring program. And more importantly, from an environmental standpoint, the salinity, aquifer temperature and ph impact from the brines being injected into the aquifer (and, potentially, whatever antifouling and other chemicals that come with it). There certainly appears to be a number of potential advantages, both cost and environmental, for BHP adopting the aMES platform for treatment of the brine waste at Jansen in order to reduce this waste volume and potentially add an additional revenue stream .

"The tailings management area (TMA) at closure will consist of the fine and coarse areas. The fine tailings are expected
to take roughly 50 years to consolidate to enable access for equipment to grade, recontouring, placement of appropriate
cover, and revegetated. The coarse TMA will be closed and reclaimed through either natural or enhanced dissolution
and is derived from the total tailings created during the mine life. The reclamation of coarse tailings involves long-term
dissolution by precipitation, and the collection and disposal of the resulting brine through brine disposal wells into the
Winnipeg-Deadwood Formation."
