    Hi tinhat,

    Brilliant post! I'd also add that the Labor Governments after Howard/Costello also added further structural expenditure increases and did nothing to reign in the Howard/Costello structural spending. Gonski, expenditure entered into with phantom MRRT revenues, NDIS etc.

    I read a statistic not long ago that the mining boom from 2004 to 2015 supposedly added $250Bn+ of extra Government revenues, and yet here we are at the end of it racking up massive deficits. In fact, Federally, no surplus has been achieved since 2007.

    It's disgusting.

    Howard/Costello did direct some of their surpluses into the Future Fund / Higher Education Fund, but towards the end a lot went to the middle class welfare you mentioned.
