I read this in the West Australian. It certainly makes your mind wander with the recent events.
I find it very curious that we learn now that BHP has the Canning high on their list of targets, within a week of the state agreement between Buru and the state government.
Did the government know BHP were sniffing around? BHP states in the article that any gas would likely need to be exported due to lack of infrastructure.
The State Agreement may of been a combined effort from both Buru/Mitsubishi and the WA government - Buru would be less vulnerable to takeover, Mitsubishi don't need to share with another big player, and the WA government secure their gas.
Win/Win/Win.
Without any proved gas reserves, it seemed a very early call with the State agreement. I get the feeling like BHP are looking for a way in.
NSE perhaps the next best slice of the pie, however they carry a great deal more risk.
