The Japanese fuelled 70s boom was concerned with ~4% of the world population. The current resource boom is being brought to fruition by ~40% of the world population. Alot more people with their feet on the accelerator.
In my opinion I don't believe BHP will pull the pin on RIO, wait for RIO share price to drop and then re-launch Takeover v2.0 in 6 months time. Kloppers is trying to get RIO shareholders onside to sell-out to BHP, by jerking RIO shareholders around with corporate bullying is hardly the way to get RIO shareholders onside.
I believe BHP are playing the game well, and now RIO have to prove where the ball-park is.
BHP-RIO will have amazing pricing power, but there is no advantage of screwing over your customers and pi$$ing off regulation bodies world-wide. BHP execs are smarter than that.
