Yes I apologise...."TYPO".... $179,000 pa. The old contracts when BHP had taken over in the Newman areas the ops were on $179k. I was on the sites then before I went to Area C. The ops that were rolled over from the old contracts were in the midst of being given options of the sabbatical rosters and retirement options and so on and so forth. Some of the new labour hire that was coming in and being replaced were then put on $40 per. That caused no end of arguments, ops not returning to site and the complaints came into labour hire peeps that there were double standards and the list of grievances went on & on. It was an uncomfortable time. Fights were going on and of course BHP backed us shirts but we knew dam well the labour hire were being ripped. I met a lot of good operators that will never work for bhp ever again....which is sad because there was a period of time where if you could push a Coles trolley around you could get a job driving a truck. I have mates that are still on $70 an hour, gold cards for lounge, medical, discounts for this & that and the bonuses on sites vary of course.
