Pete, whilst I would like to partially agree with you that the problems at the core of the US economy are still present and getting worse, the world is not going to collapse to a level that would warrant a SP in BHP of $16
not a chance
the Fed will extend the current program of swapping ST for LT debt OR proceed with QE3 if the economy starts to even slip
i believe the EZ will also get there act together and do something. Over the last few years they have always been late to act, but neverless, have acted in some way
China cutting rates is also going to put a floor under all things BHP related and I can assue you that China's boom is only just getting started
from here, BHP imo consolidates at the least, but will eventually move north again, well higher than where its currently at
$16 is as good a chance occuring as Melbourne are of winning the 2012 AFL Premiership
