This implies that bhp is working on optimum configuration of below ground operations and I could see that they are using heap leach processing to initially extract copper. Oak dam provides good potential to use the new processes from a fresh start to see if a bigger project at Olympic Dam is possible at reconfigured processing and under ground mining.
They may opt to heap leach ore at oak dam before transporting to OD to refine, this would be a smart move to reduce volumes needed to be moved. Also to note that how many intercepts of 180 m at 6% copper and 12g/t gold exist elsewhere, it’s very impressive stuff.
