I don't believe PE ratios are a good way to assess mining companies given cyclical commodity prices. If anything the opposite holds true. At the top of the cycle earnings are high therefore PE is low , bad time to buy. At the end of a bust earnings are low therefore PE ratio may be high but a good time to buy
