BHP needs to obtain approval from 4 countries.
Australia - Approved
United States - Approved
South Africa - Approved
Europe - ..... Uncertain (Will decide by Jan next year).
So, the ball is in Europe's hands now ....
Rumors seem to suggest that Europe (under the pressure of China) will not approve the merger ... or at least subject to tough conditions.... thus.. Rio's SP is trading at significantly lower level than the 3.4 offered by BHP.
