The big dollars are not in the bank until they buy back their shares on the market. Shorters are buyers in the wings. I'm quite happy to see a high short position at the current price.
In 2012, the shorters made a huge mistake. They sold short in the belief that FMG's stress would force it to make a share issue at a bargain price. That was never going to happen. And the company is much stronger now than it was then, with no major repayments due until 2017.
