THE world’s largest miner BHP Billiton has announced that it has negotiated iron ore price increases with China’s Baosteel.
BHP said in a statement today that Yandi iron ore and Newman fine ore prices have been agreed at $US1.4466 per dry metric tonne while Newman Lump Ore has been negotiated at $US2.0169/dmt.
“We are pleased to have also reached agreement with Baosteel at the prices announced today,” BHP Billiton marketing president Tom Schutte said in a statement.
“We will now seek to settle agreements with the remainder of our customers under existing long-term supply agreements both in China and other countries.”
The prices match those announced by Rio Tinto, which were a 96.5% hike on last year’s price for lump iron ore and a 79.88% increase on last year’s price for fines.
Shares in BHP closed 88c higher at $40.70.
