Bollinger bands are worth learning about for stops, because ideally you want to get the highest high and the lows low during a trend,Bollinger bands can signal extremes very well,in conjuction with other trend following tools.you dont really want wait for price to turn before taking profit.
but to start with, a simple trendline and moving average combination is as good as any if you want to give it some room.
an arbitary % stop doesnt allow for the natural swings of each stock.
