Thursday, September 08, 2005 FOLLOWING its recent entry into the uranium sector, mining goliath BHP Billiton has appointed well-respected nuclear energy expert Gail de Planque to its board.
De Planque has over 30 years of experience in the nuclear energy industry and is currently on the board of British Nuclear Fuels, Landauer and acting as a consultant to the United Nation's International Atomic Energy Agency.
She is also a past president of the American Nuclear Society, the International Nuclear Societies Council, the Pacific Nuclear Council, a member of the National Academy of Engineering, a former member of the National Council on Radiation Protection & Measurements and secretary of the International Nuclear Energy Academy.
BHPB is currently considering a $5 billion expansion at Olympic Dam, which holds the world's largest known uranium resource and which it acquired as part of the WMC Resources takeover.
Meantime Michael Chaney and Lord Renwick of Clifton are retiring from the BHPB board.
