Cameco partners with Brookfield in acquisition of Westinghouse (The acquisition gives Westinghouse a total enterprise value of almost US$8 billion.) First Mover but not the last!
ElectricOlympic dam was/is very quietly 20-30% of BHP revenue. 70% copper and a bit of silver and gold. Amazing resource! It is currently Australia's biggest Uranium site. The 2008 plan to expand became "BHP dumps $3.5 billion expansion plan at Olympic Dam in 'body blow' for SA economy"
Not arguing with the choice by BHP management at that time!
The world has turned Uranium spot was $20-30USD in 2020 - Its now about $50USD and demand is clearly outstripping supply.
The "Cameco/ Brookfield acquisition of Westinghouse Electric" ("Westinghouse a total enterprise value of almost US$8 billion.") has shown an 'insider first move' by Cameco. It also proved the first move of the trillion$$$ green energy funds have moved to the nuclear fuel cycle by Brookfield Renewable Partners.
Honestly brought BHP knowing all of the above. Happily waiting for BHP executive to announce what blind freddy can see what is coming.
If anyone needs proof of BHP being quiet/shy of uranium could just look at the Uranium EFTs holding BHP specifically for its uranium while the BHP reports ignore almost entirely. (NYSE:URA holds $USD29,062,313.59 of BHP)
I suspect big things are occurring quietly inside BHP - Uranium was a considered Evil and is now the golden child as it should be!
Research into Uranium reserves by government found
"Seven of the world’s 20 largest uranium deposits are in Australia—Olympic Dam (SA), Jabiluka (NT), Ranger (NT), Yeelirrie (WA),Valhalla (Queensland), Kintyre (WA) and Beverley (SA). Australia has the greatest diversity of economically importanturanium deposit types of any country in the world, with resources ofeconomic significance in many uranium deposit types. Despite the extent of its resources, over 10 per cent of Australia’s lowcost uranium resources are inaccessible, due in part to stategovernment policies prohibiting uranium mining. In 2005, Australia achieved record national production of 11 222tonnes of uranium oxide from three operational mines—Ranger,Olympic Dam and Beverley. Beverley is the world’s largest uraniummine employing the in-situ leach (ISL) mining method. The Board of Canadian mining company sxr Uranium One hasapproved development of its Honeymoon deposit in SA. Honeymoonwill also be an ISL operation, producing some 400 tonnes of uraniumoxide per year for seven years. Production will commence fromHoneymoon during 2008. A proposal to expand Olympic Dam would see uranium productionfrom the mine treble to 15 000 tonnes of uranium oxide per year, which would make Olympic Dam and its owners, BHP Billiton Ltd,by far the world’s largest producer. "
IF uranium contracts are $USD80lbs soon as expected the quiet BHP will be "by far the worlds largest producer" of U308 to help the world reduce C02 and secure much needed power stability.
The Low Hanging Fruit of Solar/Wind sites near existing transmission infrastructure has already been taken and is not nearly enough!
My investment theory only of course
Have a great weekend
