As I understand it, shareholders will continue to own the same businesses with the same underlying value, unless of course the BHP oil and gas assets are worth more than 48% of the combined entities.
The oil and gas business should presumably be more focused and more efficiently run when combined as part of Woodside.
BHP should be more attractive to ESG focused investors.
My biggest worries are the dropping Iron Ore price and, for the longer term, what China is doing in terms of seeking alternative IO supply.
