Finding viable alternative supply is a noble pursuit however when you consider political stability, high grade Fe, transport costs, construction costs it would take lots of cash and time to develop, maybe decades, but if anyone can do it china will, but in the meantime they won't be just shutting BF's to limit steel production anytime soon.
I've owned, maybe still own, shares in a company named Sundance Resources in Africa developing an IO mine I don't think they've even turned any soil yet and they've been there for about 10 years and nothing to show for it.
