U.K. Stocks Rise, Led by Standard Chartered on 1st-Half Profit

London, Aug. 7 (Bloomberg) -- U.K. stocks rose, led by Standard Chartered Plc after it reported earnings that beat analysts' forecasts. Lastminute.com Plc climbed after the Internet retailer of short-notice flights and vacations said third-quarter loss narrowed.

The U.K. benchmark FT-SE 100 Index gained 21.80 points, or 0.5 percent, to 4153.00 at 10:20 a.m. in London, extending yesterday's 3.4 percent climb. The FT-SE All-Share Index rose 11.59 points, or 0.6 percent, to 2001.94.

The following stocks are making significant gains or losses in U.K. markets today. Stock symbols are in parentheses after the company names.

BHP Billiton Plc (BLT LN) rose 5 pence, or 1.9 percent, to 276p. The world's largest mining company said full-year net income rose 10.5 percent after the world's biggest mining company incurred $650 million in one-time costs a year earlier. Net income rose to $1.69 billion, or 28 cents a share, in the year ended June 30, from $1.52 billion, or 25.7 cents a share, a year earlier.
