Hundreds of displaced people of the private sector Bhusan Steel Limited in Dhenkanal district today locked the main gate of the plant, demanding the fulfillment of their six-point charter of demands.
The demands included jobs to all the 27 ITI-trained youths, who got training on Bhusan sponsorship and the reinstatement of 400 local casual workers, dismissed by the plant authorities.
About 600 people hailing from all the seven affected villages gathered at the plant gate this morning and locked it from outside.
However, production and expansion work of the company was going on as the workers had entered into the plant early in the morning, North Central DIG Lalit Das said.
The villagers took the step after a talk held under the chairmanship of Dhenkanal District Collector failed to find any solution.
The locals alleged severe water, dust and air pollution by the steel plant and accused the plant authorities of adopting anti-local policies in recruitment violating the decisions of Rehabilitation and Peripheral Advisory Committee decisions.
Police said the situation was tense and five platoons of police force had been deployed to prevent any untoward incident
