Bidding value of a stock & its relation to price rise or fall

Hi All,

1. I am new to stock trading, Today when the markets closed i see that people are bidding way higher than what the stocks current price is.
Want to know if this is some kind of strategy to increase the demand for that stock and hence increase its price ?
Correct me if am wrong, but why would somebody want to buy stocks at higher prices when they are available for less price.
Please clarify.

2. Lets assume a stock has got less volume the bidding price is lesser than the ask price,
how does the stock price manage to push higher though there is no transaction happening as there is mismatch of bid & ask price.
Or am i missing things here. Please clarify. Does buy and sell happen even when there is a mismatch ?
