Not sure of the cal of the counter sniper but it was likely larger than 7.62... probably 300 win mag
For you shooters...the 300 vs 7.62, in terms of kinetic energy...the 300 KE is WAYYYY higher than the 7.62.A.300 Winchester Magnum round exits the barrel with kinetic energy equal to the energy required for linear vertical displacement of 3520 pounds through a one foot distance, while a 7.62x39mm round exiting the barrel has energy equal to the amount required to displace 1590 pounds over the same one foot distance.
If he hit the guy in the head...the damage would be huge. I think I read somewhere the shot was just above one of the eyes. Ive seen the damage of a 5.56 to a head and anything close to a 7.62 or a 300 win mag would do a lot LOT more damage.
The only thing that could explain this photo is if the bullet came from his front and as we cant see it...maybe took off the rear and side of his skull
