What is the fairest way to judge a President or President elect?

I’d say their record when in Government speaks louder that a single staged debate.

Does not performing well in a single televised debate override 4 effective years as President?

Does performing better in a single staged televised debate override winning office by defrauding a company so as to pay hush money to hide sexual indiscretion to get elected, followed by 4 years of mayhem in Government, culminating with an insurrection event?
