    I read up on the Keystone XL pipe line, turns out it's for oil sand/slug. That stuff is really dirty shit that is actually quite expensive to turn into petroleum products so is only viable with high oil prices.

    To mine the stuff they have to clear huge forrest

    As for the job losses, in pushing to get the permits for the pipe line they suggested 10's of thousand of jobs would be created, turns out they only employed 1000.

    Far Right nut jobs seem to think profit is more important than the environment

    Any case fossil fuels are a finite resource, the fact that they are resorting to thinks like fracking and oil sands indicates just that and there is no choice but to advance to renewable energy
