Most border communities are hispanic with very low European and Black populations

They have always had border crossings, part and parcel. Originally Texas was Mexico afterall so they have longer links and even still now, stronger ones. Whites have never had much interest. There is a lot of daily border movement so they have checkpoints outside that border region on main roads. Many live on one side and work on the other, Many business are split, with office admin US side and factory Mexico side. US residents cross the border for dental treatment and cheap booze. Families are living both sides.

Splitting organic communities up to pander to the weak and pathetic, who are not impacted by border crossings, is sick and twisted, perverse but when Australians whine about it it is a whole new level of ugly.
