So just pondering the costs around VRBs and cost recovery in recycling...
Given electrolyte makes up approx. 40% of battery costs for a 4-6hr battery, rising further as duration increases (Google), and given life expectancy of ~25 years, any idea of electrolyte costs for 2nd life?
US Vanadium recently completed a trial electrolyte recovery to confirm they could recycle used/spent/contaminated (?) back to the standard required of VRBs, but was there any costings put to this yet?
Essentially, are batteries using recycled electrolyte going to be in the realm of 40%+ cheaper than originals?
Does this affect the rollout of VRBs, or does their long lifespan without degradation mean by the time of recycled electrolyte new tech will have superceded it?
