About a year ago I spoke with LPD's resident Geo. Tom Dukovic, who explained to me how the Lithium Industry is very much in it's infancy and standardised reporting has not been developed and/or practiced. Basically with regards to the reporting of what Li20 measured, is held in what type of mineralization. Ie: Spodumene or Mica's.
The recent reporting (Not yet publicly verified) regarding MIN's DSO shipment. Was Laiden with Lepidolite, to me substantiates what Tom had expressed. Can anyone find any reporting of Mica's, Lepidolite specifically, ever being reported from the Wodgina site? I doubt it.
Fact is they co exist. As demonstrated within the James Bay fine print - "The mineralization belongs to the rare element class
LCT (Li-Cs-Ta) family and the Albite-Spodumene type".
Keeping in mind - The L-Max® process potential by-products include sodium silicate, caesium, and rubidium (as formates), sulphate of potash (SOP), tantalum or tin concentrate, gypsum, and sodium sulphate. In short, LMax targets portions of the aforementioned LCT family, present at James Bay.
LCT pegmatites are a mixed bag. Spod, Petalite, Lepidolite and many other minerals within the Mica group. Make up the pegmatites, of varying degrees of course.
The question is - How much of the reported 40mt contained within the LCT family is within the Mica group and how much is purely within the Albite-Spodumene mineralisation?? But shhh, the industry doesn't want to talk about this yet.
I understand this will upset some people, I've got a thick skin. But remember this is industry wide and not just specific to JB/GXY. Read up on LCT pegmatites and browse through the reporting of Lithium players and you'll question what's not being said.
In just the past few days, we've seen good confirmations that Mica is abundant. Admittedly not as abundant in targeted pegmatites as Spodumene. But in significant commercially viable quantities none the less. This bodes very well for our future.
Did we know that in 2012 Galaxy shipped a 10 tonne trial shipment of mica from its Mt Cattlin operation under a purchase agreement with a European international industrial minerals group that specialises in mica-based products?
