Apologies if this link has been posted already. It represents an interesting variant on the need for wise water use on specific geologies. Beijing is literally sinking under its own weight as there is no longer groundwater present to fill the spaces between the sub-surface sediments. And we are not talking millimetres of movement...it's much scarier than that.
